Youth Studies

Winter/Spring 2012

Sunday School (Sunday mornings, at 9:00)

Middle School – (Matt Croon, Scott McNeill, Ron Quidatano)BEING GOD’S PEOPLE – Follows Israel’s history from the giving of the Law at Sinai through Joshua’s farewell speech at Canaan.  Meets in room 228. High School will meet in this class as will until Feb 5th.

High School – Boot Camp to Survive the College Yearstaught by Fabrice Jotterand.  The world of higher education constitutes a fascinating environment to learn, discover and mature as a person. However, the same setting can become challenging for Christian students. Most professors are critical if not hostile to the Christian worldview and its values. Should then parents and future students fear the college years? In this class we will explore strategies to prepare spiritually and intellectually future college students to confront the realities of academia.   High School will join this class on Sunday Feb 5th– Room 230.

Youth Group – Oasis for Youth (Sunday evenings, 6:00 to 7:45 at Trinity)
Our theme verse for the year: Philippians 3:14, “I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.”

We will be applying this verse in a unique way this year. Students will be divided up into teams and will “press toward the goal for the prize” and learn skills in understanding the high calling of God in Christ Jesus through various team building activities, friendly competitions, and spiritual exercises. Our desire is to see spiritual community and maturity grow within our group. After our team time and worship time, we will be dividing into the following classes:

TEACHING:

The Peacemaking Church, Cultivating a Culture of Peace
During Oasis we will be studying biblical peacemaking – how to deal with conflict from a biblical perspective.  James 3:18 says, “And a harvest of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace.” When we as a community of believers learn to live out the gospel in the conflicts of daily life, we are cultivating a culture of peace. It is through the gospel of peace that people are more willing to admit their shortcomings, families are better equipped to handle disputes and members are encouraged to go to each other to discuss problems instead of letting them fester.
